Brenmor Homes, Managing Partner
Through 20 years as a real estate manager, builder and developer in southeastern Connecticut, Nate Weiss hasn't forgotten the lesson he learned as a teen working in his father's appliance stores:
It's not just a product you're selling, but a promise—an assurance you'll be there, personally, to make sure the customer is satisfied.
After graduating from Cornell and earning his MBA from Duke University, Nate returned to Connecticut to focus his skills on area real estate. First managing apartment complexes, then as a mortgage specialist and real estate broker and then a developer of residential and commercial space, he gained expertise in every facet of the business.
Teaming up in 1996 to form Brenmor Homes, Nate incorporated all he'd learned into building first-class, affordable family homes.
“Our goal has been to simplify the homebuilding process—to combine a lifelong knowledge of Connecticut markets and resources with experience in financing into a complete package that includes land search, design and construction.
“By coordinating and streamlining, we lead our home buyers past the pitfalls that a less-experienced or out-of-state builder wouldn't have the resources to solve.”
Offering a smooth, efficient structure, Nate says, not only cuts time and expense, but allows each buyer more personal control over their finished home—which means more customer satisfaction. Not to mention the pride Nate feels at seeing over 100 families now enjoying Brenmor custom homes throughout the region.
“Mark and I have lived and worked all our lives in southeastern Connecticut, so we build homes the way we'd build them for neighbors. And each one carries our promise that we'll be there, personally, to make sure it's everything you'd hoped it would be.”
Brenmor Homes, Construction Partner
It was in 1982, while working in the construction trades, that Mark Coen began looking for a house of his own. He soon realized the only way to get exactly what he wanted was to build it himself.
That experience launched Mark's career as a contractor and real estate developer. Over the last two decades, he's managed every aspect of home construction for more than a hundred families throughout southeastern Connecticut.
Even as his development business grew, Mark realized his passion lay "in the earth work part of it, the actual hands-on work.
“I love starting with a piece of land that has three huge rocks and fifty trees and telling the buyer, 'We can put the house here, and this is what it will look like when it’s done.' Then I go to work on making it a reality—from excavation and framing all the way through to landscaping.”
An equally important part of the process is in building relationships, on both sides of the business. Having spent his life in regional construction, Mark knows which craftspeople he can count on and which will deliver for customers. “Over the years, I've come to know the best plumbers, the best masons," he explains, "people I work alongside seven days a week and who I know do the most meticulous work.”
Especially rewarding is the way he's seen buyers return years later to discuss building their next home or to seek opportunities in purchasing property.
Spending days on-site overseeing the progress of each home, Mark is constantly focused on scheduling, quality control and customer service. "The bottom line is that each house we’re building represents the dreams of a family, it’s the biggest thing in their lives right now. So we need to go that extra step to assure that they're satisfied.
“Whatever they want, it's my job to make sure it's built right.”
